 The Rusutsu Wind Energy Center, Invenergy’s first onshore wind energy center in Japan, has reached commercial operations.

The Rusutsu Wind Energy Center is located in Rusutsu Village, Abuta District, approximately 60 km southwest of Sapporo, Hokkaido Prefecture. Built at a high elevation of 800 meters, the project overcame geographic and weather challenges, including heavy snowfall, to maximize renewable energy generation capacity in the region. It consists of 15 wind turbines manufactured by GE Vernova, each of which can produce up to 4.2 megawatts (MW) for a total installed capacity of 63 MW – enough to power 35,000 Japanese households, while offsetting 64,000 tons of carbon emissions annually.

Invenergy’s Rusutsu Wind Energy Center Reaches Commercial Operations in Japan

 (February 16, 2024) - Invenergy, the leading privately held developer, owner, and operator of sustainable energy solutions, today announced commercial operations have commenced on its landmark high-voltage Tealov Cardal transmission line in Uruguay, further demonstrating Invenergy’s deep expertise in infrastructure to serve growing clean power markets globally. Cardal is Invenergy’s third project in Uruguay. Invenergy currently owns the 65-megawatt La Jacinta Solar Farm and 70-megawatt Campo Palomas Wind Farm.

Cardal consists of a new 55-kilometer (34-mile), 500 kV high-voltage transmission line, a new 20-kilometer (12-mile), 150 kV transmission line, a new 500 kV substation, and accompanying infrastructure. The line connects to the Punta del Tigre substation and a 150 kV high-voltage line in Salto. Cardal also included enhancements to increase interconnection flows between the departments of Florida and San Jose.

The Cardal transmission line is integral to Uruguay’s clean power goals. Currently, 98 percent of the country’s electric generation is produced from clean power, dominated by hydropower and wind energy. The line is operated by the Uruguayan state-owned power company, Administración Nacional de Usinas y Trasmisiones Eléctricas (UTE), under a 30-year lease agreement.

With the energization of Cardal, Invenergy has now entered into service or contracted 6,475 linear kilometers (4,023 miles) of transmission and collector lines globally, including flagship projects throughout the Americas.  Elsewhere in Latin America, Invenergy constructed a 44-kilometer (27-mile), 230 kV double circuit transmission line from Acajutla to Ahuachapan in El Salvador which connects its 378-megawatt LNG-to-power Energía del Pacifico project with the Central American Electrical Interconnection System or Sistema de Interconexión de los Países de América Central (SIEPAC). 

In the United States, Invenergy is the leading developer of long-distance transmission projects that employ high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technology and are designed to deliver diversified renewable energy resources to market. Invenergy’s

 –The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities today announced it has awarded a 2,400-megawatt contract to 

 in its highly competitive third offshore wind solicitation. A partnership between two American companies - lead developer 

, the project is now the largest competitively awarded offshore wind project in the U.S. Leading Light Wind will build upon its proven track record and commitment to responsible, clean energy development to help realize a thriving offshore wind industry and supply chain in the Garden State.

Once operational, the project, located over 40 miles off the coast, will supply New Jersey with 2,400 MW of clean energy – enough to power more than 1 million homes. The project is scheduled to begin construction in 2028, with operations in the full lease area estimated to begin in 2032. Leading Light Wind will reduce carbon emissions by 4.1 million tons each year over the full life of the project.

Leading Light Wind will bring major economic investment to New Jersey, creating an estimated 7,500 jobs and $3.7 billion in anticipated economic development benefits for the state. These benefits include localizing a wind turbine generator (WTG) tower manufacturing facility in New Jersey and performing marshalling activities at the New Jersey Wind Port; the expansion of the EEW American Offshore Structures monopile manufacturing facility; and development of an in-state operations and maintenance port.

In addition, Leading Light Wind has allocated up to $150 million for a comprehensive community benefits program. This 

 and opportunities that aim to empower local communities, promote youth education and workforce inclusivity, accelerate the growth of the domestic offshore wind supply chain, and pioneer collaborative environmental research in partnership with academic institutions, other ocean users and more. The project has also established a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with New Jersey labor unions that prioritizes union construction for the project and supports lifelong career opportunities in the offshore wind sector. The MOU endorses hiring and training practices to promote a diverse, next-generation workforce. As a part of Leading Light Wind’s larger community benefits program, the project will activate strategic partnerships with several educational, career, and workforce institutions across the Garden State.

Leading Light Wind, An American-Led Offshore Wind Project, Awarded Contract By State Of New Jersey; Ushers In New Era For Domestic Clean Energy Transition

Missourians and energy consumers across Midwest to see greater energy savings and reliability sooner following today's approval by Missouri Public Service Commission

Approved new power delivery configuration provides necessary certainty to support ongoing and upcoming commercial contracting efforts

– Today, the $7 billion, 800-mile Grain Belt Express electric transmission infrastructure project secured approval from the Missouri Public Service Commission (MPSC) for its request to amend its existing Certificate of Convenience and Necessity. The decision marks the last required state siting approval for significant enhancements to the project and provides the necessary certainty about power delivery to support ongoing and upcoming commercial contracting efforts.

For Missouri electric consumers, today’s decision provides certainty of power delivery, billions of dollars in additional energy savings, and increased reliability for major grid regions that serve the Show Me state. Across the route states of Kansas, Missouri, and Illinois, Grain Belt Express will deliver over $11 billion in energy cost savings over 15 years and enhance reliability for millions of homes and businesses in the Midwest and other regions.

Approvals secured this year from state regulatory commissions authorize Grain Belt Express to be financed and constructed in two phases, which will enable delivery of energy savings and reliability benefits sooner. Grain Belt Express has now acquired 95% of easements for the Phase 1 main line, between southwest Kansas and northeast Missouri.

In response to strong regional demand for access to affordable, reliable power and state officials’ calls for more power to be delivered locally, Invenergy Transmission increased the line’s capacity to 5,000 megawatts, with 2,500 megawatts flowing to the line’s mid-point delivery location in Missouri—a fivefold increase in local delivery compared to the earlier project design. The full delivery capacity of the line is equivalent to roughly four new nuclear power plants to meet regional energy supply and reliability needs.

“There can be no debate that our energy future will require more diversity in energy resources, particularly renewable resources. We are witnessing a worldwide, long-term and comprehensive movement toward renewable energy. The energy on the Project provides great promise as a source for affordable, reliable, safe, and environmentally-friendly energy that will increase resiliency of the grid. The Project will facilitate this movement in Missouri, will thereby benefit Missouri citizens, and is, with the conditions set out below, in the public interest.”

“Securing the necessary state regulatory approvals is another critical step toward Grain Belt Express bringing lower electric bills and greater reliability to consumers in Missouri and across the Midwest,” said Shashank Sane, executive vice president and head of transmission at Invenergy. “We thank the state leaders in Kansas, Missouri and Illinois who have thoughtfully considered the tremendous benefits of Grain Belt Express. Invenergy and our project partners remain focused on responsible and inclusive execution in every facet of development for this historic infrastructure project that will deliver benefits to communities across the American Heartland.”

Also this week, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) acknowledged a request by Grain Belt Express to initiate a new open solicitation process to contract power delivery on Phase 1 of the line. As a merchant transmission project, Grain Belt Express enters into voluntary contracts for power delivery. The process, which could start as early as this year, would be supported by an independent consultant to assist in evaluating bids. In Missouri, 39 communities are already contracted for power delivery from the line from a prior open solicitation.

“Now that Grain Belt Express has received every state approval needed to construct the first phase and 95% of the main line easements are already acquired, we are more confident than ever that 39 communities across Missouri will be able to receive clean, homegrown energy that will save millions in lower electricity costs each year,” said John Twitty, president and CEO of the Missouri Public Utility Alliance, which represents Missouri Hometown Utilities. “Grain Belt Express’s approval in Missouri means families and businesses in these local communities have never been closer to accessing this affordable and reliable power. We are excited to see construction begin.”

In addition to billions in cost savings for energy consumers, Grain Belt Express and the new generation that will interconnect to the line will create 22,300 direct construction jobs while injecting millions of dollars in new local revenue into communities all along the line route. By connecting grid regions that serve 40% of U.S. households and over 25% of Department of Defense installations, Grain Belt Express will be a regional reliability backbone and strengthen national security.

Grain Belt Express milestones that have taken place in the last year in addition to Missouri’s approval, the open solicitation request to FERC, and completing 95% of Phase 1 main line land acquisition include:

Invenergy Closes Green Letter of Credit Facility for USD 900 Million

US-MADE SOLAR PANELS ROLL OFF THE LINE IN OHIO 

New 1.1 million-square foot, 1,000-employee facility will be one of America’s largest advanced solar panel manufacturers 

 - Illuminate USA, a leading US solar panel manufacturer, announced the official start of commercial operations at what will soon be one of the nation’s largest advanced solar panel manufacturing facilities. 

“We are proud to see American-made solar panels roll off the line at Illuminate USA and I applaud the entire team on this significant milestone for advanced manufacturing in the United States,” said Jim Murphy, President and Corporate Business Leader at Invenergy and Chairman of Board of Directors at Illuminate USA. “As demand for solar energy continues to rise in America, Illuminate’s Ohio workforce is strengthening our domestic supply chain through the production of high-efficiency US-made panels for projects across the country. Illuminate USA is based in Pataskala, Ohio in a 1.1 million-square foot facility that will employ 1,000 workers on eight production lines. The facility will produce more than 9.2 million advanced solar panels annually at full capacity by the end of 2024, equaling 5 gigawatts of electricity production, enough to power 1 million American homes.

Illuminate USA is fully staffed for initial production and has, to date, hired more than 475 employees in Central Ohio, together with the partnership of many local workforce organizations including Ohio Means Jobs and IMPACT Community Action, and the support of JobsOhio, GROW Licking County, and the Columbus Partnership.

Illuminate USA Begins Commercial Operation

 (16 de febrero del 2024) - Invenergy, el desarrollador, propietario y operador privado líder de soluciones de energía sostenible, anunció hoy el inicio de las operaciones comerciales de su emblemática línea de transmisión de alta tensión Tealov Cardal en Uruguay, demostrando así su profunda experiencia en infraestructura de transmisión para servir a los crecientes mercados de energía limpia a nivel mundial. Cardal es el tercer proyecto de Invenergy en Uruguay. Actualmente, Invenergy es propietario de la granja solar La Jacinta de 65 megawatts y la granja eólica Campo Palomas de 70 megawatts.

Cardal cuenta con una nueva línea de transmisión de alta tensión de 500 kV de 55 kilómetros, una nueva línea de transmisión de 150 kV de 20 kilómetros, una nueva subestación de 500 kV y la infraestructura alrededor de éstas. La línea se conecta a la subestación Punta del Tigre y a una línea de alta tensión de 150 kV en Salto. Cardal también realizó mejoras para aumentar los flujos de interconexión entre los departamentos de Florida y San José.

La línea de transmisión Cardal es integral para los objetivos de energía limpia de Uruguay. Actualmente, el 98 por ciento de la generación eléctrica del país se produce a partir de energía limpia, dominada por la energía hidroeléctrica y la energía eólica. CHICAGO, IL. – January 31, 2024 – A new portfolio of seven community solar projects in Illinois and New York will help approximately 5,000 households, along with area non-profits, businesses, and a public school district, save as much as 20% on their monthly electricity costs.

For Walmart, this is a key example of how the retailer is ramping up its energy transformation strategy by investing in projects that focus on making access to clean energy affordable, reliable, and equitable – and in line with Walmart’s goal to bring at least 2GW of community solar projects in service by the end of 2030. “Serving our customers and communities is core to our purpose at Walmart and our support of this high-impact portfolio demonstrates our continued commitment to that purpose. The transaction supports a portfolio of seven community solar projects across Illinois and New York, boasting a combined capacity of 14.4 megawatts (AC) which are estimated to avert 667,788 metric tons of CO2 emissions — equivalent to eliminating 748 million pounds of coal burned — over the projects’ lifespans. The six Illinois community solar projects are located in Chicago Heights, Ford Heights, Monee, Granite City, and Rockford and will serve qualifying customers of ComEd and Ameren. The New York solar project is located in Oswego County and will serve qualifying customers of National Grid.

Community solar allows customers to realize the financial benefits of clean energy without owning a property or the upfront costs for solar. For renters, LMI households, and many local businesses in states with community solar programs, community solar is one of the few zero-upfront-cost options for saving money on electricity bills. According to DOE’s Low-Income Energy Affordability Data Tool, the national average energy burden for low-income households is 8.6%, three times higher than for non-low-income households. In some areas, depending on location and income, energy burden can be as high as 30%. Of all U.S. households, 44%, or about 50 million, are defined as low-income.

“Projects like Reactivate’s are shining examples of how renewable energy developers can distribute the direct benefits of grid-decarbonization to historically underserved communities,” said Clark Conlisk, U.S. Bancorp Impact Finance -Vice President, Assistant Director of Project Management & Impact Capital, who is part of the Environmental Finance team of U.S. Bancorp Impact Finance. “For the LMI households subscribed to the project, the money that no longer must be spent to keep on the lights and A/C is a benefit to real people and empowers them to spend or save as they choose. U.S. Bank is fortunate to be able to support Reactivate’s vision for an inclusive and equitable clean energy economy while advancing our own clean energy and equity goals.”

Reactivate’s portfolio will serve approximately 5,000 households to benefit from the electricity cost savings delivered by these projects, approximately 90% of which will qualify as LMI. LMI customers in Illinois and New York will receive a minimum 20% reduction on their retail electricity costs, up to the amount of their subscription to project output. Total customer savings from the projects in this investment are projected to exceed $17 million over the projects' lifespans.
